Crumpled Dreams
An art-in-science project
They are questions posed by many, in eager anticipation:
‘Will there only be one band?’
‘Will my protein interact?’
‘Will my weekend be ruined?’
Staring longingly into the deep blue sea, ready to see what fate has in store. The biochemist’s white whale.

“Crumpled Dreams” is a collective art project by the Higgs lab, celebrating the scientist’s age-old quest for understanding. Much like sand trickling through the fingers, the drying of a Coomassie-stained SDS-PAGE gel marks the passage of time, as well as the potential for strange and wonderful patterns to emerge after that time has passed. Though not yet complete, we unveil “Crumpled Dreams” in this intermediate state, to signify the forever incomplete nature of science and art.
